About #UnboxingType1

unboxing - definition - graphic.png

Unboxing is about opening something up, and sharing that experience online - with friends, loved ones, acquaintances and even complete strangers. This initiative is all about "unboxing" what it means to live with Type 1 Diabetes in 2019, in a day and age when everything is shared online.  Social media and other digital platforms offer people from all walks of life the opportunity to exchange stories and connect with others who share a similar experience.

Our official launch and debut forum will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2019 - to mark the end of Diabetes Awareness Month. Here, we'll unpack the stories, the opportunities, and the challenges that come with navigating the online world as a person living with Type 1 Diabetes.

In the summer of 2006, Jacob discovered his passion for basketball, but his dreams were halted when he was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes. Thus, his lifelong commitment to basketball and diabetes began. The complications and hardships that came along with the disease influenced a unique and philanthropic vision during his time as a varsity basketball player at George Brown College. His aspirations of playing professional basketball was no longer a goal in mind.

Instead, Jacob was inspired to create a future for not only himself but all the Diabetics around the world. It wasn’t long until he was ready to start his own organization in hopes of impacting millions of Type-1 Diabetics like himself through the game of basketball. After a two-year process of bringing a vision to life, Jacob launched Dunking 4 Diabetes Canada in hopes of changing the world one dunk at a time.
